Minot’s lost river culture was born on and fed by the Souris River at a time when the river remained a natural resource. Our enjoyment of it didn’t need to be intentional because it was easy.
Today, our enjoyment isn’t as easy — the flood protection project of the 1970s changed the physical environment such that much was lost. Naturally, the river culture waned as a result.
In order rekindle what has gone quiet, we need to be intentional and patient in exposing people to the beauty and opportunity that remains.
